TANJUNGPINANG - Tanjungpinang Police, Riau Islands Police (Kepri), arrested MR (20), a baby disposal mother in a ditch on Jalan Pramuka, Bukit Bestari District, Tanjungpinang City.

"The perpetrator was arrested at a boarding house not far from the location where the newborn baby was found. We found MR looking weak in his boarding house, so he was interrogated and he claimed to have given birth to the baby," said Tanjungpinang Police Criminal Investigation Unit Head AKP Mohammad Darma Ardiyaniki, quoted by ANTARA, Thursday 6 June.

Darma said the MR perpetrator had now been named a suspect, and was charged with a violation of Article 181 of the Criminal Code which reads "Whoever burys him, hides, takes away or removes a corpse with the intention of hiding his death or birth, shall be punished with a maximum imprisonment of nine months".

According to him, the motive for the suspect MR's act of throwing the baby away was because he was afraid and embarrassed because the baby was born lifeless.

"MR gave birth alone without the help of other people, after finding out that the baby died, immediately panicked and decided to throw it away," said Kasat.

Darma explained that MR's baby was indicated to be the result of an illicit relationship with his girlfriend, but the location of the incident was not in Tanjungpinang City, but in his place of origin, Lingga Regency.

This was confirmed by the police because it was based on the birth time of pregnant women in general, which was nine months, while the suspect MR came to Tanjungpinang in December 2023.

"Then, MR only realized that he was pregnant in March 2024, after calculating the withdrawal, the suspect was in Tanjungpinang for about three or four months," he said.

Darma said the Tanjungpinang Police had coordinated with the Lingga Police for further investigation, including coordinating with the Tanjungpinang City Social Service for the recovery of the suspect MR after the birth.

Previously, residents found a baby fetus wrapped in a black plastic bag in a ditch on Jalan Pramuka, Tanjungpinang City, on Tuesday night, June 4.

Residents then reported the findings to the Bukit Bestari Police and soon the police went to the field to evacuate the baby's fetus.

"The baby's body was immediately evacuated to the hospital for an autopsy. The result was that the baby was born lifeless," said AKP Darma.
