2,800 People Evacuated From Mount Kannan Filipina Eruption

A total of 2,800 people fled to the evacuation center due to falling ash, gas, and lava threats after the Canaon volcano in the Philippines erupted on Monday (3/6) night.

According to a report by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PIVS), Mount Canaon on the island of Stopping the eruption for six minutes, sending vertical clumps as high as 5 km into the atmosphere.

PVIS raised the level of vigilance of the volcano from 1 to 2 on a scale of zero to 5, and warned of a more explosive eruption.

Reported by ANTARA from VNA-OANA, Tuesday, June 4, authorities in the city of Canlaon,ulantal Province ordered people living on the banks of rivers downstream of the volcano to leave their homes, and stop unnecessary work.

Several flights to and from Bacolod, the provincial capital and the nearest major airport to the volcano, were cancelled.

The Philippines is in the Pacific's seismicly active 'LIGHT' and more than half of the world's volcanoes are in the region. Kanlaon is one of 24 active volcanoes in the Philippines.

The Pinatubo eruption, about 100 km from Manila, in 1991 was the country's strongest volcanic explosion in recent years, killing more than 800 people.
