Sick, Bribery Lukas Enembe Dies

JAKARTA - The private party who was the briber of former Papua Governor Lukas Enembe, Piton Enumbi died.

Head of the KPK News Section Ali Fikri said Piton died of illness. A certificate was issued by the Provita Jayapura Hospital on Thursday, May 30.

"Based on a medical certificate issued by the Jayapura Provita Hospital, it was declared dead for medical reasons," Ali told reporters in a written statement, Monday, June 3.

Ali said Piton's legal status would soon be discussed. This process is in accordance with applicable legal rules.

"We will immediately discuss the legal status of the suspect as stipulated in the law," he said.

Previously, Lukas Enembe also died before the case had permanent legal force. He was found guilty in the case of alleged bribery and gratuities related to infrastructure project work in Papua Province.

He was sentenced to 8 years in prison and a fine of Rp. 500 million, subsidiary to 4 months in prison.

Lukas was also sentenced to an additional sentence in the form of paying compensation of Rp. 19.69 billion, subsidiary to 2 years in prison and revocation of political rights for 5 years after serving his sentence.

The Jakarta Corruption Court Panel of Judges said that Lukas was proven to have received bribes of up to Rp17.7 billion. One of them is from Piton Enumbi, who is the owner and director of PT Melonesia Mulia, PT Lingge-Lingge, PT Astrad Jaya, and PT Melonesia Cahaya Timur worth Rp10.4 billion.
