JAKARTA - The Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources said that there were sulfur deposits observed in Gunung Kelimutu's II Dawah in Ende Regency, East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

"Observes golden yellow and light yellow sulfur deposits propagating above the surface of the crater lake in the middle and in the northeast, east, southeast, and south," said Head of the Kelimutu Volcano Observation Post, Irwan Ka Uman, as reported by ANTARA, Friday, May 31.

Mount Kelimutu is a strato-type volcano that has three crater lakes, namely Kawah I (Tiwu Ata Polo), Kawah II (Tiwu Koofai Nuwamuri), and Kawah III (Tiwu Ata Bupu).

The mountain experienced an increase in status from Level I or Normal to Level II or Alert due to a significant change in the color of the Crater I lake water as well as the dynamics and distribution of sulfur on the surface of the increasingly intensive Crater II lake.

He explained that the water from Kawah II lake is light blue, there is no change in color, the color is the same as the previous examination, but there are golden yellow and light yellow sulfur deposits.

In addition, the smell of sulfur gas in crater II smelled weak, while in Kawah Iair, the crater lake was brown and black with the smell of sulfur gas smelled weak.

In Crater III, the crater lake water is dark green and looks calm.

The Geological Agency still recommends that people and visitors to Mount Kelimutu not be around the crater area.

He said the latest information on Mount Kelimutu was continuously updated every 24 hours so that the public could find out all the volcanic activity of the mountain.

"It is not within a radius of 250 meters from the edge of the crater," he said.
