JAKARTA - Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday criticized the failure of the United Nations to stop the Israeli genocide in Gaza, Palestine, as the death toll continues to rise, concerned about the failure to protect humanitarian staff.
"The spirit of the UN has died in Gaza," said President Erdogan at a parliamentary meeting of the Justice and Development Party (AK Party) in the capital Ankara, reported by Daily Sabah, May 29.
"They have failed to even protect their own staff or aid workers, let alone stop the genocide," he denounced, lamenting the inability of the international system to stop the "atrocities" in Gaza.
Medical sources in Gaza reported that on Wednesday, at least 75 people were killed and 284 others were injured as a result of Israeli attacks in the last 24 hours, bringing the death toll of Palestinians in Gaza to 36,171 people and 81,420 others injured, since the Israeli aggression on October 7, quoting WAFA.
"What good is the UN if it can't stop a live-streamed genocide in the 21st century?" asked President Erdogan.
President Erdogan's remarks came as the UN Security Council met to discuss Israel's deadly attack on a refugee tent camp west of Rafah on Tuesday that killed 21 people. Previously, around 45 people were killed as a result of Israeli air strikes which also hit the refugee camp in Rafah on Sunday night.
