Former Governor Of Babel Examined In Tin Corruption Cases: Natural Damage Is Not Comparable To Community Welfare

JAKARTA - Former Governor of Bangka Belitung (Babel) Erzaldi Rosman Djohan (ERD) has been investigated by the Attorney General's Office (AGO) as a witness in the case of alleged corruption in the tin commodity trading system in the PT Timah Tbk Mining Business Permit (IUP) region from 2015 to 2022.

During the examination, Erzaldi Rosman Djohan was said to have conveyed that the damage to nature and the environment due to mining was not comparable to the provincial income from the mining sector.

In fact, the welfare of the community in terms of nutritional adequacy, health, education, and tourism continues to decline.

"Witness ERD explained that the natural wealth of the tin sector is inversely proportional to the welfare of the people and their regions," said the Head of the AGO, Ketut Sumedana in a statement, Tuesday, May 28.

This statement was conveyed by Erzaldi Rosman Djohan when answering dozens of questions raised by investigators on Monday, May 27.

"The examination of witness ERD as the Governor of the Bangka Belitung Islands Province for the 2017-2022 period is 7 hours with a total of 22 questions," said Ketut.

In the development of the alleged tin corruption case, the AGO has named 21 suspects. Some of them are Sandra Dewi's husband, namely Harvey Moeis, crazy rich Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) Helena Lim, and the founder of airline Sriwijaya Air Hendry Lie.

Based on the results of calculations from environmental experts, the value of environmental damage losses reached Rp271 trillion. Meanwhile, state financial losses are still in the process of being calculated.
