JAKARTA - Indonesia welcomes the stance of Spain, Ireland and Norway, which will recognize the Palestinian State starting this Tuesday, assessing it is important for a two-state solution.

Joining more than 140 countries out of 192 UN member states recognizing the State of Israel, the three countries said they were trying to accelerate efforts to ensure a ceasefire in Gaza.

"Indonesia welcomes the decision of Ireland, Spain and Norway to recognize the Palestinian State," the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs tweeted in a post on social media X, Tuesday, May 28.

"This recognition means an important meaning to realize the solutions of the two countries," continued the tweet.

The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi met with Irish Foreign Minister Micheal Martin, Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Albares and Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen, on the sidelines of a meeting of the Islamic Organizational Organizational State (OKI) and the European Union in Brussels, Belgium on May 26-27.

During the meeting, Foreign Minister Retno emphasized the importance of Two State Solution in front of European countries.

"Indonesia encourages other countries to recognize the Palestinian State," tweeted the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Spain, Norway and Ireland also hope that their decision will encourage other EU countries to do the same.

It is known, of the 27 members of the European Union, Sweden, Cyprus, Hungary, Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, Romania, and Bulgaria have recognized the Palestinian state. Meanwhile, Malta and Slovenia have indicated that they can follow suit.

PM Sanchez said Madrid would not recognize any changes to the border before 1967 unless approved by both sides.

"This is the only way to progress towards what everyone admits is the only possible solution to achieving a peaceful future, one of the Palestinian Countries that coexists with the State of Israel in peace and security," said PM Sanchez.

He also said Madrid would recognize a united Palestinian State, including the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, under the Palestinian National Authority with East Jerusalem as its capital.
