Duh, Bigo Live Is Still Used For Mesum Content Broadcast

JAKARTA - Since its appearance several years ago, Bigo's live chat video application has often become a public concern in Indonesia due to a number of serious issues related to inappropriate content. This application is often used to show indecent scenes, which create concerns about digital ethics among users.

In addition, there are also concerns about the negative impact this application misuse has on underage users, especially since Bigo Live has a 12-+ age rating on the Google Play Store. While aimed at users 12 years of age and older, Bigo Live is often used as a platform to broadcast adult content.

One of the worrying things is shows featuring women in minimal clothes and erotic dancing scenes in front of the camera. The Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) also commented on the phenomenon.

"The state must also act decisively against pornography to be present in front of protecting citizens, especially children. Therefore, we will take down as soon as possible and of course we will coordinate with Kominfo so that it does not spread more widely," said Deputy Chairperson of KPAI, Jasra Putra, in his statement, Monday, May 27. Putra added, protection of children and women in online space requires cross-sectoral cooperation. Kominfo must act quickly to remove pornographic content that harms children. He also emphasized that the state must not lose to the pornography industry, strict regulations must be applied, including on the Bigo Live platform.

According to him, Industry may develop, but not by harming children. He added that child protection in online space is a priority that must be carried out firmly by the government.

Previously, in September 2023, a surprising case occurred in Garut, West Java, where a pair of lovebirds were caught doing indecent scenes on the Bigo Live application. The action of the lovebirds was responded to by the audience who watched by giving gifts or sawerans during the live streaming.

The video immediately went viral and sparked a strong reaction from the public as well as authorities who demanded firm action against the perpetrators and platforms that facilitate the content.

According to ICT Institute Technology Observer and Executive Director, Heru Sutadi, adult content that appears on digital platforms must be reprimanded, even legally processed. Because, in the ITE Law such things are prohibited acts.

"Indeed, what must be processed is the perpetrators, but digital platforms must also take responsibility because they should have a monitoring mechanism so that pornographic actions are not given space in Indonesia," he said. This event shows the importance of implementing more assertive and systematic actions in regulating digital content on live streaming platforms. Collaboration between the government, application developers, and society is very important to create a secure and ethical digital environment for all users.

Bigo Live as a major platform must take over responsibility in supervising the content that is broadcast and ensuring its use does not violate applicable laws and ethics.
