National Working Meeting V PDIP Recommends Revision Of Permendikbud Regarding UKT PTN

JAKARTA - The PDI-P V National Working Meeting (PDIP) which was held from Friday, May 25 to Sunday, May 26 produced 17 recommendation points. One of them is related to the increase in single tuition fees (UKT) at state universities (PTN).

"The National Working Meeting V of the party has assigned the PDI-P faction of the DPR RI to urge the government to reduce the high cost of education through the revision of Permendikbud Number 2 of 2024," said PDIP DPP Chair Puan Maharani while reading the results of the PDIP V National Working Meeting at Beach City International Stadium, Ancol, North Jakarta, Sunday, May 26.

Previously reported, Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Mendikbudristek) Nadiem Makarim said that the increase in UKT as a result of the existence of the Minister of Education and Culture Regulation Number 2 of 2024 only applies to new students. Meanwhile, those who have studied will not be affected.

"So, the Ministry of Education and Culture regulations emphasize that the new UKT regulations only apply to new students and do not apply to students who have studied in universities," he said.

He said there were many misperceptions in the community regarding the regulation. Among other things, the increase in UKT is considered applicable to all students studying at universities.

Meanwhile, Deputy Chairman of Commission X DPR Dede Yusuf Macan Effendi offered a short-term solution related to the polemic of increasing UKT in PTN. There are two things that can be done, namely revoking and revising Permendikbud Number 2 of 2024 concerning Standard High Education Operational Costs (SBOPT) at PTN in the Ministry of Education and Culture.

"The short-term solution is to immediately revoke and revise Permendikbud 2/2024, especially regarding limits on UKT and IPI costs before receiving new students," said Dede Yusuf in a working meeting with Minister of Education and Culture Nadiem Makarim, Tuesday.
