JAKARTA - The Department of the Bantul Regency, Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY), proposed the revitalization of two traditional markets at Piyungan Market and Mangaran Market to the central government through the 2025 Special Allocation Fund (DAK).

"For the revitalization of the people's market in Bantul in 2025, we propose the revitalization of the Piyungan Market and Mangaran Market through the Ministry of Trade with DAK," said Acting Head of DKUKMPP Bantul Husin Bahri in Bantul, Wednesday.

According to him, in principle, discussions for proposals have been prepared, including the design of budget needs, which are also related to land readiness issues and so on are in process.

"So in June (2024) there will be special discussions related to our readiness, and later the decision around November or October will be approved or not," he said.

However, he said, the people's market revitalization activity was directed to use the DAK of the Ministry of Trade, because if you use the APBD, the finances are limited, so that through ministries that have competence in market development.

He said, based on the calculations carried out by the local government, the budget for the revitalization of the Mangaran Market was around Rp. 7 billion to Rp. 8 billion, while the Piyungan Market was around Rp. 4 billion.

"There have been general calculations and it leads to how the two markets really become strategic markets, because the Mangaran Market on Jalan Raya Srandakan is on a strategic route to tourist attractions and Yogyakarta International Airport," he said.

Thus, he said, he hopes to reflect Bantul's face in the market sector, because Mangaran and Piyungan Markets are also on tourist routes bordering other districts in DIY Province.

Furthermore, he said that in general in Bantul there are 32 people's markets with different building conditions and situations, so that people's markets from the aspect of infrastructure still need efforts to revitalize.

"Revitalization, both on a heavy, medium and small scale, we will direct the heavy ones like in Mangaran Market, but we use the medium and small scale with the APBD," he said.
