JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo pushed for a situation resolution in Palestine when he met the President of the United Nations General Assembly Dennis Francis on the sidelines of the 10th World Water Forum Summit in Bali.

During the meeting which took place at the Bali International Convention Center (BICC), Badung, Bali, Jokowi appreciated the progress at the UN General Assembly regarding the status of Palestine, but stressed that more action was needed to resolve the conflict.

According to President Jokowi, the root of the conflict problem is that Israel's illegal population of Palestinian land must be resolved.

"We must not stop here, the root of the conflict must be resolved, namely the illegal occupation of Israel of Palestinian land," said Jokowi as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, May 20.

Jokowi emphasized that the process at the UN General Assembly must reflect efforts to achieve a two-state solution.

The President also emphasized the importance of strengthening the coordination of UN agencies to help the Palestinian people.

Meanwhile, regarding multilateral system reforms, the Head of State expressed the urgent need for adaptation that allows developing countries to play a more active role, especially in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

President Jokowi also invited the United Nations to work together in facing the challenge of rising sea levels that threaten many archipelagic countries.

"Indonesia is ready to collaborate, including becoming a development partner to sow and support the implementation of the summit this September to produce concrete actions in overcoming existing problems," he said.

In its response, the President of the UN General Assembly acknowledged that the situation regarding the Palestinian state is still uncertain and continues to be of concern to the United Nations.

The UN General Assembly has given a very strong recommendation to the UN Security Council to rethink and reconsider its decision on Palestine.

"PBB remains very committed to a two-state resolution for Palestine. In all views, this agreement is the only credible outcome that can guarantee peace and stability in the Middle East," he stressed.
