Grammy-winning singer SZA has expressed her anger after finding hundreds of her works used without permission to train artificial intelligence (AI) technology.
SZA bluntly called the use of AI that exploits the copyrights of musicians as an act that damages the creative music industry.
Through a post on his personal Instagram Story, the musician with the real name Solána Imani Rowe shared a screenshot of the results of searching his name in the AI music database.
The results of the search showed that as many as 238 of his songs had been included in the AI training data set.
"I just checked and AI music has trained its system from my 238 songs. I'm sure some of them are unreleased songs," SZA wrote, quoting the caption of the upload, Monday, June 22.
"If you're a musician and you support this shit? You're disgusting and there's not one word you can say to me to make this right. I hope you get the life you deserve," he continued.
The criticism of the singer of the song *Kill Bill* adds to the long list of his rejection of the commercialization of AI in the music industry.
On the album "SOS" released at the end of 2022, SZA even voiced these concerns through the lyrics of the song "Ghost in the Machine".
He also made similar criticism in an interview with i-D Magazine, where he felt that the music industry was in a 'state of war' due to the prevalence of digital exploitation which was considered to be detrimental to the economic rights of artists, especially black musicians.
Based on a report from the music streaming platform Deezer, this threat is not just a mere bluff. Deezer recorded a massive spike where about 44 percent of the songs uploaded to their platform are now the result of AI creations.
This figure is equivalent to around 75,000 AI-based songs flooding the industry every day. This phenomenon has sparked great concern among global musicians regarding royalties, originality, and the future of human creativity, which is increasingly eroded by machine efficiency.
