Riau Islands Police Seize 36 Stolen Motorcycles, 4 Criminals Arrested

The Riau Islands Police confiscated 36 units of motorcycles from the proceeds of the crime of theft by an automatic motorcycle specialist in Batam City.

Dirreskrimum Polda Kepri Kombes Adip Rojikan said, from the confiscation, officers managed to arrest four suspects with the initials FR, YP, AP and DF.

As for other evidence, namely fake vehicle plates, T keys, cash and three mobile phones.

"One of the suspects, namely YP, is a recidivist who acts as a picker. Meanwhile, the other three suspects act as jockeys, collectors and sellers," Adip said as quoted by ANTARA, Monday, May 20.

He said that the disclosure of this case began when his party received two police reports related to the loss of motorized vehicles from the public on May 7, 2024 at around 13.00 WIB.

Based on the victim's statement, officers carried out developments and searches which then at 17.40 WIB the officers managed to arrest the four suspects in several locations in Batam City along with evidence of dozens of motorbikes stored in three different locations.

"They keep the stolen motorbikes in three different places, namely in Punggur, Batu Aji and Sekupang. They claimed to have carried out the action dozens of times and shared their duties with each other," he said.

The modus operandi of the perpetrators was to forcibly revive the motorbike which was the target of using the T key which was then taken to the storage area before it was sold.

For this act, the perpetrators YP and DF were charged with Article 363 paragraph 2 and/or Article 362 in conjunction with Article 65 of the Criminal Code concerning Alleged Crimes of theft with weight, the threat of imprisonment for a maximum of seven years.

"Meanwhile, for collectors, namely FR and AP, we are trapped under Article 480 paragraph 1 in conjunction with Article 55 of the Criminal Code concerning Evil Relief. Both are threatened with imprisonment for a maximum of 4 years," said Adip.
