BALI-President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) introduced the Subak irrigation system in Bali Province as a form of local wisdom in caring for water as a cultural value of ancestral heritage.

"As a country with an area of water that reaches 65 percent, Indonesia is rich in local wisdom in water management, ranging from along the coastline, the edge of the river to the edge of the lake," he said at the opening of the 10th World Water Forum (WWF) Summit in Bali, quoted from ANTARA, Monday, May 20.

He said Indonesia has cultural value towards water, one of which is the Subak irrigation system in Bali which has been practiced since the 11th century and is recognized as a world cultural heritage.

"In addition, water for society is glory that contains spiritual and cultural values that must be jointly managed," Jokowi added.

Jokowi said, this is in line with the big WWF theme this time, namely "Water for Prosperity Together" which can be interpreted in three basic principles.

This principle, namely avoiding competition, prioritizing equitableness and inclusive cooperation, and supporting mutual peace and prosperity.

"The three of them can be realized with a keyword, namely collaboration. In Indonesia collaboration has become the key to success in restoring the Citarum river, as well as developing green energy, solar panels floating in the Cirata Reservoir which is the largest in Southeast Asia and the third in the world," he said.
