JAKARTA - Chairman of the Indonesian House of Representatives, Puan Maharani, will chair the 10th Parliamentary Meeting on The Occasion of The 10th World Water Forum (WWF) or the 10th World Water Forum which will be held in Nusa Dua, Bali, starting tomorrow. He confirmed that the substance of the problems in this forum will produce a solution to overcome the water crisis.
"As the host of the session, the DPR RI focuses on the success of the Parliamentary Meeting on The Occasion of The 10th World Water Forum activities, both from the implementation aspect and the success of subtances in strengthening water management for the welfare of the people," said Puan, Friday, May 17.
As the host with the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), various preparations have been made by the DPR to welcome WWF Bali 2024. One of them was the preparation meeting chaired by Puan at the DPR Building on Thursday, May 16.
The theme WWF Bali 2024 is 'Mobiling Parliamentary Action on Water for Shared Prosperity' (Mobiling Parliamentary Action on Water for Welfare Together). Through this theme, according to Puan, lawmakers from all over the world will have the opportunity to take steps to overcome water scarcity.
"Then also to increase parliamentary cooperation in expanding access to clean water, as well as mobilizing actions against water for global security and welfare," said the first woman to serve as Chair of the DPR RI.
Puan said the WWF forum was quite significant because water is very important for the earth and mankind. Whether it's for health, the environment, and the socio-economic function is widely known.
"With such an important and abundant function, water is therefore the subject of political discussion," said Puan.
Moreover, the problem of clean water is also one of the agendas for sustainable development goals (SDG). Therefore, said Puan, the world parliament under the IPU continues to build commitments to strengthen parliamentary discourse about forming a new water management system.
"That is to encourage parliamentary action regarding water and sanitation. Given that the discourse on water is still limited and rarely touches its political implications for the earth and humans, as well as how to overcome it," explained the Chairperson of the 144th IPU General Assembly in 2022.
Under the spirit of cooperation and collaboration, said Puan, WWF Bali 2024 will involve parliamentary, IPU, and international organizations participants. Thus, Parliamentary Meetings at the 10th World Water Forum Event can provide platforms for honest global discussions on water-related issues.
"As well as providing proposals for action to advance the global water agenda," said Puan.
Together with representatives from the IPU, Bung Karno's grandson will also give his opinion on the WWF or the 10th World Water Forum held by the World Water Council with the Government of Indonesia as the host. Puan will express her opinion based on the results of WWF Bali 2024.
"The Parliament meeting will submit a paragraph to add to the Minister's Declaration as part of the political process," he said.
