JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) issued an early warning in the form of potential light, moderate, to heavy rain which could be accompanied by lightning and strong winds in various major cities in Indonesia on Friday morning May 17. Quoted on the official website of the BMKG, it is predicted that most major cities will have the potential to experience heavy rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds including Tanjung Pinang, Padang, Banda Aceh, Pangkal Pinang, Bengkulu, and Gorontalo. BMKG also predicts that several major cities such as Manado, Palu, Mamuju, Kendari, and Jayapura will experience moderate rain. Meanwhile, other big cities have the potential to experience light rain, ranging from Tanjung Selor, Banjarmasin, Samarinda, Makassar, Ternate, Manokwari, and Ambon. The rest will experience thick cloudy weather conditions.

Specifically for the DKI Jakarta area, BMKG predicts that all areas will experience sunny cloudy weather conditions in the morning until noon and change to sunny all areas at night.

BMKG also explained that cyclonic circulation is now in the Andaman Sea and Natuna Sea so that this condition is able to increase the potential for rain cloud growth around the cyclonic circulation area and along the convergence or convergence area. As for the forecast for sea wave heights in the territory of Indonesia, BMKG asks the public to be aware of the potential for tidal flooding along the coast of the Riau Islands and the north coast of Central Java.
