PDIP Concerning The Broadcasting Bill Bans Journalists From Investigation: Don't Be Excessive Fear

The PDI-P opposes the prohibition of investment journalism which is planned to be included in the Broadcasting Bill (RUU). All parties must not have excessive fear because the press is the fourth pillar of democracy.

"Regarding the Broadcasting Bill, the PDI-P has so that this Election Bill does not completely abolish investigations," said PDIP DPP chairman Djarot Saiful Hidayat to reporters at the PDIP DPP office, Menteng, Central Jakarta, Thursday, May 16.

Instead of banning, Djarot said the state should provide protection to the press. This is because its role is considered important to maintain democratic conditions in the country.

"Don't let it be because of excessive fear then the press with negative broadcasting is then prohibited," he said.

Previously reported, the DPR RI took the initiative to replace Law Number 32 of 2002 concerning Broadcasting through the revision of the Law.

In the revision, there is a restriction rule through Article 50B paragraph 2 point c which is believed to interfere with media independence in revealing the facts for prohibiting investigative journalism.
