Commemorating The Death Of Shireen Abu Akleh For Two Years, Family Launches Social Foundation

JAKARTA - Commemorating the two years of the death of veteran journalist Shireen Abu Akleh, the family launched a social foundation to commemorate and honor his legacy.

The Ministry of Health said Abu Akleh was hit by a sharp bullet in the head. He was rushed to the hospital in critical condition before being declared dead.

The launch of the foundation was confirmed by the family, Lina Abu Akleh, the nephew of the late Shireen, in honor of his legacy.

"Our family founded the Shireen Abu Akleh Foundation in honor of its legacy," the 27-year-old activist said in a post on X, quoted from WAFA May 13. "Your support will be used to help build the next generation of journalists around the world," he continued.

Abu Akleh was born in Jerusalem in 1971. He has a journalistic title from Yarmouk University in Jordan. After graduating, he returned to Palestine to work in his field and joined Al-Jazeera in 1997.

"As we commemorate two years from the assassination of #ShireenAbuAkleh, the family founded a foundation to preserve its legacy. The foundation aims to help future journalists globally through scholarships. Join us in this movement; your support can shape the future of journalism," tweeted the Foundation's official X account.

"This facility aims to collect 10 scholarships annually for journalism students at well-known universities," the tweet node.

Abu Akleh's death has attracted attention. He is one of the famous Al-Jazeera correspondents, considering he is one of the most influential, prominent and hard-working women in the field of journalism and media in Palestine who has worked for more than 25 years for Al-Jazeera, covering the Palestinian-Israeli conflict.
