Heru Budi Wants Island Reclamation For Waste Disposal Sites

JAKARTA - Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono expressed his desire to reclamation the special island as a landfill for final waste (TPA). Heru assessed that this garbage disposal site needs to be built on new plains. This is because the availability of land in Jakarta is currently unable to accommodate Jakarta's waste every day. "I have a thought that one of them is that we must dare to build final waste disposal sites such as Bantargebang," said Heru in North Jakarta, Monday, May 13. Heru gave an example of the construction of a waste disposal site on the island resulting from this reclamation by the Singapore government by building the island of Sembakau. According to Heru, the reclamation location of this new island as a garbage reservoir can be built in waters near North Jakarta and the Thousand Islands. "We have an idea is that on the north side of the sea, we can push 5 kilos from the mainland. Later the waste can be processed with technology by throwing it into the area," said Heru. Moreover, according to Heru, this new land reclamation can be done by hoarding mud from the dredging of 13 rivers in Jakarta, which is a routine program of the DKI Provincial Government. "So, later the waste disposal, including sediments to become islands, is to be able to process park offices, also of course for the processing of waste itself, and we can add green open space," he explained. Therefore, Heru asked the ranks of the DKI Jakarta Environment Agency together with experts to make studies on development plans to analyze environmental impacts.

"I ask the Head of the Environment Agency to study with experts, environmentalists to be able to discuss daring to do this," said Heru. "Yes, in the future we have to be like that. It is no longer possible to dispose of garbage in Bantargebang, in mainland Jakarta," he added.
