JAKARTA - PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) recorded the timeliness of train departures during the Christmas 2024 and New Year 2025 holidays reaching 99.5 percent.
"During the Christmas 2024 and New Year 2025 periods, KAI noted that the timeliness of train departures or on-time performance (OTP) reached 99.5 percent, while OTP arrivals reached 97.4 percent," said KAI Vice President Public Relations Anne Purba in a statement in Jakarta, quoted by Antara, Tuesday 31 December.
Anne said that this achievement shows KAI's commitment to providing reliable and timely services to customers.
He said that timeliness is one of the advantages of rail transportation. Trains cannot wait for customers who arrive late at the station.
"We hope customers can PLAN the trip carefully, including taking into account the travel time to the station and the queue process during the boarding," said Anne.
He explained that customers who were late and canceled their departure because they were left behind by the train would not get a ticket refund fee.
Therefore, to facilitate the boarding process, KAI provides face recognition facilities at a number of stations. Customers can also board directly using the Access by KAI application without the need to print tickets.
To support customer convenience during the holidays, KAI also provides additional facilities such as information areas, comfortable seats in waiting rooms, and special facilities for the elderly and people with disabilities. The move aims to ensure train travel remains comfortable and enjoyable.
KAI recorded that based on data Monday (30/12) at 06.00 WIB, the number of long-distance and local train tickets that had been sold for the Christmas and New Year 2024/2025 holiday period, namely 3,052,003 tickets from the total seating capacity provided by KAI was 3,572,588 tickets.
Meanwhile, from December 19 to December 30, 2024 during the Christmas and New Year period, KAI has dispatched 2,303,255 passengers in Java and Sumatra.
KAI also stated that the flow of departures and holiday arrivals at the end of the year has been closely monitored, even some of the trains that are the prima donna for occupancy have exceeded 100 percent, such as Airlangga Train, Joglosemarkerto Train, Sritanjung Train.
In addition, the Blambangan Express train, the Pariaman Express train, Rajabasa train, Putri Deli train, Matarumaja train, Logawa train, Bangunkarta train, and many other trains in Java and Sumatra.
According to Anne, the train occupancy rate that exceeded 100 percent was due to dynamic passengers, namely passengers who went down between the initial station and the final destination station.
KAI runs 6,156 regular trains and 1,120 additional trains consisting of long-distance and local trains during the Christmas and New Year 2024/2025 periods from 19 December 2024 to 5 January 2025.

"With this number of trips, KAI continues to prioritize safety and timeliness as a top priority," he said again.
KAI urges customers to allocate travel times early in order to anticipate congestion or other obstacles to the station due to bad weather.
Anne emphasized this, considering that the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicts high rainfall in a number of parts of Indonesia from December 2024 to January 2025.
