Representing RI Speaking In OECD, Airlangga Discusses Three Important Issues

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto representing Indonesia gave a speech at the OECD Member Ministerial Meeting in Paris, France.

In front of all OECD member state ministers, Airlangga conveyed three important issues. First, he discussed Indonesia's commitment to carrying out sustainable development.

"We are talking about sustainable development, and also related to Indonesia's environmental programs, related to the energy transition, and related to Indonesia's future achievements to build an environmentally friendly economy," said Airlangga in his statement in Jakarta, Saturday.

On the second issue, Airlangga expressed Indonesia's view regarding artificial intelligence (AI). He admitted that Indonesia was asked for its views on AI by OECD.

In his view, Indonesia emphasized the need for the role of responsible AI, as well as the position of Indonesia that supports the Hiroshima Initiative carried out by the Japanese Government.

"We see that OECD will soon make regulations related to AI, as well as mitigate its impacts, both on the public, the government, and stakeholders," said Airlangga.

Then on the third issue, the Head of the OECD National Team also conveyed the Freeflow with Trust (DFFT) Data.

For information, the Free Flow with Trust data describes an ideal scenario where there is no limit on the flow of cross-border data between countries.

In this discussion, OECD asked Indonesia to provide the first response regarding what Indonesia and ASEAN have done.

The chairman of the OECD session who is also the Minister of Digital Transformation of Japan, Taro Kono, said that OECD must learn from Indonesia and Japan regarding this issue.

"ASEAN has advanced one step ahead, with the digital framework agreement that has been launched by Indonesia. And inside it includes interoperability rather than data, then, data crossbanders with trustworthy, and the third one we have even moved beyond with the data. Already conducting local currency seats with system payments in five ASEAN countries. And from there they want to learn from ASEAN countries," he concluded.
