Evacuation Of Basarnas Saves Father And Son Trapped In Floods In North Konawe

The incident of a father and son caught in a flood occurred in North Konawe. The SAR Post Rescue Team, Kendari Basarnas managed to evacuate a second in Puuwanggudu Village, Asera District, Konut, Southeast Sulawesi.

Head of the Kendari Basarnas Muhammad Arafah when met in Kendari, Saturday afternoon, said that information about the trapped father and son was obtained from the victim's family who reported that a dangerous condition had occurred in the place at 13.15 WITA.

"The two victims were Herman (37) and Aisyah (4), who are residents of Puuwanggudu Village, Asera District, North Konut," Muhammad Arafah said as quoted by ANTARA, Saturday, May 4.

He said that based on the report, his party then dispatched a Rescue Team for the North Konawe SAR Post to an informed location to provide SAR assistance, where the team was also conducting flood patrols in the Konut Regency area at 13.25 WITA.

"The location area mentioned by the Konawe Utara SAR Post is about 7.4 kilometers," he said.

After arriving at the location, he continued, the rescue team immediately evacuated the two victims safely and then handed over the victim to the family at 15.10 WITA.

Muhammad Arafah said that by evacuating the two victims safely, the SAR operation was in a dangerous condition for humans trapped in floods in Puuwanggudu Village, Asera District, which was declared complete and closed.

"All elements involved are returned to their respective units," he explained.

Muhammad Arafah, revealed that the two victims who were trapped in the flood began when they went to the garden across from the Asaki River to harvest corn in the garden using a canoe at 09.00 WITA.

"At around 13.00 WITA, when the victim was returning to his village, the canoe the victim was traveling in was swept away by the current of the Lasolo River," he said.
