JAKARTA - The Palestinian Civil Defense Service on Tuesday said more than 10,000 people had been missing under the rubble of buildings in the Gaza Strip since Israel completely attacked the Palestinian enclave on October 7, 2023.

"We estimate that more than 10,000 people have disappeared buried in the rubble of hundreds of houses destroyed since the start of the aggression (Israel)," the service said in a statement quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, May 1.

It was also stated that the missing people were not included in the Ministry of Health's death list so that the number of martyrs exceeded 44,000 people.

Rescue teams began to find rotting bodies from beneath the rubble of buildings in the Gaza Strip, the statement said.

Israel has launched a brutal attack on Gaza in retaliation for the Hamas Palestinian group's attack on Israel on October 7 last year. According to Tel Aviv, the Hamas attack killed nearly 1,200 people.

Israeli attacks have killed more than 34,500 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and more than 77,700 others were injured in mass destruction and lack of supplies of basic necessities.

More than six months after the Israeli war began, much of Gaza's territory was destroyed and 85 percent of its population was forced to flee amid Israel's blockade of food supplies, as well as the scarcity of clean water and medicines, according to the United Nations.

Israel is accused of committing genocide at the International Court, which by interim ruling in January ordered Israel to stop its actions and take action that ensures smooth humanitarian aid to civilians in Gaza.
