BMKG: Earthquake Vibrations In Bandungbul Due To Garut Fault Activities

BANDUNG - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said that the tremors of the 4.2 magnitude earthquake felt by the people of Bandung Regency, West Java this morning came from the fault activity of the South Garut fault activity. "By paying attention to the location of the epicenter and the depth of the hypocenter, the earthquake that occurred was a shallow earthquake caused by the activity of the South Garut fault," said Head of the Bandung BMKG Geophysics Station Teguh Rahayu in Bandung, Antara, Wednesday, May 1. According to him, the people of Bandung Regency had felt the tremors of the MMI scale II earthquake, or the vibrations were felt by several people with light objects that were hung swaying for a while on Wednesday at around 10.06 WIB. Therefore, his party appealed to the local community not to worry because the vibrations felt came from shallow earthquakes arising from the fault activity. A tectonic earthquake with a magnitude of 4.2 occurred at 10.06 WIB in the Bandung Regency area at a depth of 4 kilometers. Teguh said the vibration was felt real inside the house, but there was no potential for a tsunami. BMKG also noted that there were two aftershocks that were recorded at 10.28 WIB.
