NTB Police Name Director Of GNE Suspect In Clean Water Supply Case In Gili Trawangan

Investigators from the Special Criminal Investigation Directorate of the West Nusa Tenggara Regional Police have named the Director of PT Gerbang NTB Emas (GNE) Samsul Hadi (SH) as a suspect in the case of providing clean water in Gili Trawangan.

The Director of Special Criminal Investigation at the NTB Police, Kombes Nasrun Pasaribu, confirmed the determination.

"Yes, that's right," said Nasrun as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, April 30.

The information regarding the determination of the director of the regional-owned enterprise (BUMD) for the NTB Provincial Government was also conveyed by the Head of Sub-Directorate IV for Certain Crimes at the NTB Police Criminal Investigation Directorate, Adjunct Senior Commissioner of Police I Gede Harimbawa.

He explained that SH was named a suspect along with the Director of PT Berkat Air Laut (BAL)William John totaling (WJM) who is a foreign national from Switzerland.

The two people were named as suspects for the operation of providing clean water in Gili Trawangan which was not in accordance with the permit, namely distilling seawater into clean water.

PT BAL as a third party in collaboration with PT GNEjustru provides clean water through illegal groundwater drilling.

"So, the suspicion is that it has entered into environmental destruction. PT BAL is an intellectual actor, this GNE participates," he said.

Investigators named SH and WJM as suspects by applying Article 70 letter Djucto Article 49 paragraph (2) of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 6 of 2023 concerning Stipulation of Government Regulations in Lieu of Law Number 2 of 2022 concerning Job Creation and/or Article 68 letters A and B as well as Article 69 letters A and B of Law Number 17 of 2019 concerning Water Resources jo. Article 56 of the 2nd Criminal Code.

Harimbawa emphasized that the research prosecutor had stated that the case files belonging to the two suspects were complete or P-21.

"So, this case remains in phase two, the transfer of suspects and evidence to the public prosecutor. We will schedule it in the near future," he said.

Regarding the statement of the files of the two suspects having been P-21, it was also confirmed by the Spokesperson for the NTB Prosecutor's Office, Efrien Saputera.

"Yes, the file is already P-21, just waiting for the second phase of the delegation from the police investigators," he said.

PT GNE and PT BAL are noted to be working together in providing clean water in Gili Trawangan and also Gili Meno. However, the government in December 2022 officially revoked PT BAL's operational permit due to the issue of misuse of permits by providing clean water from illegal drilling.
