Civilian From Toraja Shot Dead By OPM In Intan Jaya

TIMIKA - An armed criminal group (KKB) or the Free Papua Organization (OPM) attacked the Homeyo Police in Pogapa Village, Homeyo District, Intan Jaya Regency, Tuesday, April 30 at around 07.40 WIT.

The attack killed a civilian from Toraja, South Sulawesi named Alexsander Parapak. This 20-year-old man died after being hit by a bullet in the left chest through the back and under the left armpit.

Head of the Cartenz Peace Operations Public Relations Task Force AKBP Bayu Suseno confirmed the incident. He suspects that the KKB shot was carried out by the Keni Tipagau group from Kodap VIII Kemabu Intan Jaya.

"Initially, there was a series of shots that came to Aipda Tri Setyo's house and Aipda fire at the Homeyo Police," said Bayu in a written statement, Tuesday, April 30.

Homeyo Police members fired back at the arrival of the attack by the KKB. It was seen that about 6 KKB people then ran towards the Pogapa Inpres Elementary School building.

"It was from the attack on the KKB that resulted in the victim Aleksander Parapak being shot and died," explained Bayu.

After the attack, Damai Cartenz personnel are still making law enforcement efforts by hunting down KKB perpetrators, as well as increasing preparedness.

"We really hope for the participation of the community in maintaining security in Intan Jaya district," concluded Bayu.
