Jokowi Signs Ratification Of The DKJ Law, Moving The Capital City Is Carried Out Gradually

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo signed the ratification of Law Number 2 of 2024 concerning Special Regions in Jakarta, one of which regulates the transition of the status of the capital city from Jakarta to the capital city of the archipelago (IKN).

Based on a copy of the Law which was monitored on the jdih.setneg.go.id page, it is stated in article 1 (paragraph 1) that the Province of the Special Region of Jakarta is a province that has specialities in administering government within the framework of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia.

Article 1 paragraph 2 states that the special authority in question is the authority of the Special Region of Jakarta Province regarding the implementation of functions as a National Economic Center and Global City.

In the provisions for the transition of the status of the capital city from Jakarta to IKN as stated in Article 63, it is stated that when the DKJ Law was promulgated, the Special Capital Region Province of Jakarta remained in the position of the Capital City of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia until the determination of the Presidential Decree regarding the relocation of the Capital City of the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia from the Province of the Special Capital Region of Jakarta to the Capital City of the Archipelago in accordance with the provisions of the legislation.

Article 66 states that in order to support the smooth implementation of the relocation of the nation's capital in stages, the implementation of government and/or state affairs including the place of position of state institutions and other organizations based on the provisions of the Constitution in the State Capital, can still be implemented in the Special Region of Jakarta in accordance with the stages of Presidential Regulation which regulates the details of IKN's master plan.

The ratification of the DKJ Law was signed by President Joko Widodo in Jakarta, dated April 25, 2024 and promulgated in Jakarta on the same date by Minister of State Secretary Pratikno.
