The Semarang City Police have arrested a man with the initials AAI (30) who carries 1 kilogram (kg) of crystal methamphetamine from Sumatra Island wrapped in tea packages with the aim of tricking officers.

Deputy Head of Semarang Polrestabes Adjunct Senior Commissioner of Police Wiwit Ari Wibisono said the perpetrator, a resident of Kediri Regency, was arrested after taking 1 kg of crystal methamphetamine in Ngaliyan, Semarang City, on April 11, 2024.

"Officers received information about drug trafficking. When traced, it was found that the suspect after taking 1 kilogram of crystal methamphetamine," Wiwit said when releasing the disclosure of the case in Semarang, Wednesday, April 24, was confiscated by Antara.

From the suspect AAI, the police also confiscated hundreds of ecstasy pills stored in his boarding house in the Mranggen area, Demak Regency.

According to Wiwit, suspect AAI is part of a new drug network targeting the Semarang area.

"It is still being investigated, it is suspected that a new network received shipments from Sumatra," he said.

From the suspect's confession, his action of taking drug orders has been carried out four times. When carrying out orders to take the drugs, the suspect received a salary of Rp. 3 million.

According to the Deputy Chief of Police, the 1 kg methamphetamine is planned to be resold in retail in smaller sizes.

Meanwhile, Head of the Semarang Police Narcotics Investigation Unit, Police Commissioner Hankie Fuariputra, added that during the period February to March 2024, his staff had uncovered 60 cases of drug abuse and arrested 74 suspects.

The disclosure of the delivery of 1 kg of crystal methamphetamine was not included in the performance achievements during February to March 2024. "That was the disclosure in April," he said.
