DPRD Asks DKI Provincial Government To Be Aware Of Newcomers Regarding The Lack Of Job Opportunities In Jakarta

Tens of thousands of newcomers are predicted to enter Jakarta with the majority of the aim of finding a job. In fact, there is no guarantee that the newcomers can get a livelihood.

Member of Commission A of the DKI Jakarta DPRD, Simon Lamakadu, asked the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to educate newcomers to understand that job opportunities in Jakarta are very minimal. Moreover, if they do not have special skills.

"Instead of (the DKI Provincial Government) carrying out judicial operations, it is better to educate and publish that job opportunities in Jakarta are currently minimal," Simon said in his statement, Friday, April 19.

To prevent new problems from the presence of migrants, according to Simon, the DKI Provincial Government also needs to intensify socialization regarding the potential for cooperation with areas outside Jakarta.

This method is considered to be one of the strategies to reduce people's interest in coming to Jakarta.

"It needs to be published regarding the economic potential that is the need for Jakarta residents who can be supplied from the regions, such as the need for agricultural or fishery products. This provides business opportunities for residents outside Jakarta, rather than having to travel to Jakarta," explained Simon.

Previously, the DKI Jakarta Population and Civil Registration Agency (Disdukcapil) predicted that the number of newcomers entering Jakarta after Eid was around 10 thousand to 15 thousand people.

However, the trend in the number of post-Eid immigrants this year has decreased from the last four years. In 2020, the number of newcomers reached 24,043 people.

Then in 2021, the number of immigrants is 20,046 people. The number of arrivals had increased in 2022 by 27,478. Then, in 2023, there were 25,918 entrants entering Jakarta.
