Russia: US Is The Reason UN DK Cannot Stop Iran-Israeli Conflict

JAKARTA - Spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Maria Zakharova assessed that the United States was the reason why the United Nations Security Council (UN) could not stop the conflict between Iran and Israel.

"Why did the UN Security Council fail to overcome it? Because the job was blocked by the United States. That's the only reason. Russia is trying to deploy the work of the UN Security Council and in the same way, the US will engage in this diplomatic activity", Zakharova said as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, April 18.

Iran's explanation of its response to the Israeli offensive at the Iranian consulate in Syria, he continued, could be prevented if the UN Security Council strongly condemned the illegal act.

"I don't see a Security Council response aimed at ensuring international security for everyone, and (Iran) was forced to counterattack. At the same time Iran, relies on international law agencies, which can help in situations like this," he said.

Zakharova assessed that all international communities need to consolidate to urge the United States to stop blocking the Security Council's work in cases that clearly require the efforts of the UN Security Council to prevent this escalation.

He stressed that the steps taken by Iran on the eve of April 14 were limited and calibrated and according to Iranian officials, the counter-attack was triggered by an Israeli attack on April 1.

"Iran has publicly stated that military operations that are a reaction to Israel's hostilities have ended and will not continue unless Israel is involved in a new provocation," he said.

Therefore, he continued, it is important for all parties to keep the situation from turning into an uncontrollable de-escalation that threatens the most serious impact for the entire Middle East.
