MANADO - The eruption of Mount Ruang in Sitaro Islands Regency, North Sulawesi (Sulut) paralyzed seismic equipment installed to record volcanic activity of the mountain on the Island of the Room.

"It was rusak yesterday afternoon at 18.00 WITA and the eruption was greater at 20.15 WITA. The damage only started yesterday," said Head of the Center for Volcano Monitoring and Disaster Mitigation of the Land Movement in Sulawesi and Maluku Juliana DJ Rumambi in Manado as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, April 18.

He said improvements would be made as soon as possible or possibly with other alternatives awaiting instrumentation from the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG).

"Our tool on Mount Ruang is that it died due to an eruption so that until now we have not been able to read the seismicity there. But we are trying to bring in a team from Bandung and Jogja," said Juliana.

The malfunction of seismic equipment there, he said, can be circumvented by installing Closed-Cirweet Television (CCTV) or flying 'drone'.

"These things can be pursued so that the current condition of Mount Ruang can be monitored," he said.

Juliana when asked if Mount Ruang still had the potential for a bigger eruption to say, "It's not predictable yet."

The reason, according to him, as reported by the Head of PVMBG, Mount Ruangan is unique, and the characters of each mountain are different.

"Although at this time we cannot measure the seismicity, we hope that we will continue to appeal to the six-kilometer radius of the crater of Mount Ruang to be sterile," he said.

Mount Ruang di Pulau Ruang rupsi sejak tanggal 16 April 2024 setelah terjadi peningkatan aktivitas kegempatan.

On that date, PVMBG three times raised the status of Mount Ruang from normal to alert level II (14.00 WITA), standby level III (16.00 WITA) was then raised to alert at 21.00 WITA.
