JAKARTA - The Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) reported that during the period from April 1 to April 17, 2024, there were an earthquake due to the activity of Mount Ruangan which occurred as many as 1,439 deep volcanic earthquakes.

The Geological Agency also noted that there were 569 shallow volcanic earthquakes and local tectonics 6 times.

"Tectonics is 167 times. During April 1-17 the earthquake was felt on Mount Ruang 4 times with a scale of 1 MMI," said Head of the Volcano Observation Working Team, Heruningtyas at a press conference, Thursday, April 18.

It is said that Heruningtyas, for very significant volcanic earthquakes, accompanied by volcanic tremors, occurred continuously and also several eruptions accompanied by roars that were heard to the island of Tamulandang.

He continued, Tagulandang Island was hit by narrow rain due to Mount Ruang rupsi.

"Last night's eruption caused our equipment in the field to go off due to the impact of the eruption which caused our equipment to malfunction," continued Heruningtyas.

As a result, after 20.39 WITA the Geological Agency's monitoring station no longer recorded seismic activity due to a power outage that was carried out on Tagulan Island and where the observation post was located.

"The Geological Agency plans to install temporary replacement monitoring equipment to ensure we can monitor Mount Ruangan at this time," he concluded.

Head of PVMBG Hendra Gunawan said the number of incidents of Volcanic Earthquakes increased significantly accompanied by Tremor Volcanic Intensive Tremor vibrations with the amplitude of the overscale, which indicates that currently there is still a rock mapping process accompanied by magma migration from deep magma reservoirs to the surface in the form of explosive eruptions surrounding the effusive eruption ( lava flow).
