Jakarta Traffic Starts To Be Crowded, DKI Provincial Government Says 80 Homecomers Have Returned

JAKARTA - The Provincial Government (Pemprov) of DKI Jakarta noted that around 80% of the 28.4 million travelers have returned to the capital city of Jakarta. Head of the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency, Syafrin Liputo, said that based on the results of monitoring, the volume of traffic in Jakarta was getting denser compared to the long holiday period.

"About 80 percent have been to Jakarta. Moreover, there is an announcement for today until tomorrow there is a WFH, so there are some who have postponed their return to Jakarta and are waiting for the WFH to be completed," said Head of the Transportation Agency, Syafrin Liputo at DKI Jakarta City Hall, Tuesday, April 16.

The number of passengers arriving in Jakarta on April 15, 2024, increased by 94.64 percent with a total of 27,988 passengers when compared to the same period in 2023.

Syafrin revealed that based on data on a total of seven inter-provincial intercity transportation service terminals (AKAP) on April 15, 2024, 27,988 passengers arrived with 1,625 vehicles, while departing passengers reached 3,695 with 653 vehicles.

On the other hand, on April 26, 2023, the number of passengers arriving was 14,471 with 1,116 vehicles, and 2,886 departing with 565 vehicles.

"So, it can be seen that there has been an increase in the number of passengers departing at the seven AKAP service terminals by 30.21 percent, with a total of 3,695 passengers. However, if viewed as a whole, there was an increase of 83.93 percent compared to the same period the previous year," explained Syafrin.

The peak of the 2024 Lebaran homecoming flow occurred on April 7, 2024, with a total of 18,984 passengers departing using 1,254 vehicles, and 4,323 passengers arriving with 1,317 vehicles.

"When compared to the peak of the previous year, three days before Eid, there was an increase in total passengers by 12.88 percent," added Syafrin.
