BMKG South Sumatra Urges Travelers To Beware Of Extreme Rain

PALEMBANG - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency of South Sumatra (BMKG Sumsel) appealed to travelers crossing the area to be aware of extreme rain.

The Coordinator for Observation and Information at the Palembang SMB II Meteorological Station, Veronica Sinta Andayani, in Palembang, Monday, said that heavy rainfall is predicted to occur in the next week, and the potential for extreme rain can still occur until the end of April 2024.

Therefore, people who travel during the return flow of Lebaran are also asked to remain vigilant, especially when going through disaster-prone routes in South Sumatra, such as in the Musi Banyuasin, South OKU, Pagar Alam, Lahat areas and so on.

"Restriction users are also expected to always pay attention to weather conditions. April is still in the rainy season period," he said.

Then, people who are still celebrating the Eid holiday at natural tourism locations in South Sumatra are also asked to be aware of uncertain weather conditions.

"The public is also advised to pay attention to weather conditions and be aware of tourist attractions that have the potential for disasters such as floods and landslides," he said.

He said the weather forecast in South Sumatra for the next 3 days (April 16-17) has the potential to rain with moderate to heavy intensity that occurs in almost all parts of South Sumatra.

"This weather is influenced by the growth of rain clouds which are still intensive due to the very humid and unstable atmosphere. It is also due to the wind pattern of bends and convergence," he explained.

In general, the weather during the day in South Sumatra will experience local rain. Then in the afternoon until evening the potential for moderate to heavy rain.

"For the city of Palembang, there is still the potential for moderate to heavy rain in the next 3 days," said Sinta.
