Polda Conducts Investigation Of Clashes Of Indonesian Navy Personnel With Brimob

SORONG - West Papua Police conducted a complete and complete investigation into the incident of clashes between a number of personnel from the Indonesian Navy Military Police (Pomal) Lantamal XIV / Sorong with unscrupulous members of the West Papua Police Mobile Brigade, Porong Battalion.

West Papua Police Chief Inspector General Johnny Eddizon Isir in Sorong, Sunday night, explained that the West Papua Police would basically follow up on the incident with a complete and thorough investigation to find a solution, then they would be followed by strict sanctions to members found guilty.

"We will carry out a complete and thorough investigation of the clash between Indonesian Navy personnel (Pomal) and Brimob members on Sunday (14/4)," he explained.

This investigation was carried out in order to find a bright spot for the dispute and then followed by a firm action as a deterrent measure against unscrupulous members who were found guilty.

"So we from the Southwest Papua Police team will go down and carry out an investigation into the case," he said.

He also apologized to the Indonesian Navy for the incident in the hope that in the future such incidents would not happen again so that the relation between the Police and the TNI in the Southwest Papua region, especially in Sorong City, would still be well established.

Moreover, he said, a national agenda, namely the Regional Head Election (Pilkada) in November 2024, will take place, so that the commitment of the TNI and Polri to continue to oversee the national agenda so that it is safe and conducive can run well and optimally.

"So far, it has been recorded that our colleagues from the Indonesian Navy are still being treated and one more member of the Tambrauw Police is still being treated, while five personnel from the Sorong City Police have been undergoing treatment and have returned," he said.

Incident Chronology

According to the Kapolda, the basis for the chronology of the incident began with a misunderstanding between the two parties, causing unwanted things to happen at Sorong Port.

He also expressed his gratitude to Pangkoarmada III, Daspasmar III, Danlantamal and Danrem who have committed together to resolving this issue in order to continue to build consolidation and strive not to repeat unwanted events.

The Commander of the Fleet Command (Pangkoarmada III) Rear Admiral TNI Hersan deeply regrets this unwanted incident, because the relationship between the TNI/Polri has been well established so far.

Previously, there had been clashes between a number of personnel from the Indonesian Navy Military Police (Pomal) Lantamal XIV/Sorong with members of the West Papua Police Mobile Brigade Battalion B Sorong, Sunday morning at around 09.30 WIT.

It is strongly suspected that there was a misunderstanding between members of Brimob and Pomal TNI AL at Sorong Sea Port and then resulted in a fight between fellow officers. As a result, a number of police and Navy personnel were injured.
