Aceh Police Lhokseumawe Arrests Suspected Pertamina Oil Thief

BANDA ACEH - The Lhokseumawe Police Team arrested five suspected perpetrators of fraud and theft of oil from a tanker that was about to be transferred to the Regional II Pertamina Depo in Lhokseumawe, Aceh.

Head Police of Lhokseumawe, AKBP Eko Hartanto said the five perpetrators were arrested in Hagu Selatan Village, Banda Sakti District, Lhokseumawe City, Wednesday, March 3 in the morning.

"The perpetrators were arrested after embezzling 29 jerry cans of oil from the MT Garuda Asia tanker which was to be transferred to the Pertamina depot", Hartanto was quoted as saying by Antara, Thursday, March 4.

The five actors, namely RG (36), MD (26), DI (36), and MS (37), are all residents of Banda Sakti District, Lhokseumawe. Meanwhile, another with the initials FR (41), a resident of Syamtalira Bayu District, North Aceh Regency.

Hartanto said the arrests began when the perpetrators were ready to pick up the stolen fuel using a motorboat to the tanker.

"The mode they do with the tanker's crew is by saying they have permission with the tanker's chief officer and pumpkin. Their reason is that the oil will be given to local youths", he said.

Because they were deemed to have obtained permission from their superiors, said Hartanto, the tanker's crew had invited the RG actors to take oil from MT Garuda Asia.

"Three actors, namely RG, MD, and DI are in charge of picking up oil from the tanker. Meanwhile, the other two, MS and FR, are waiting on land", he said.

Apart from the five perpetrators, continued Hartanto, several other perpetrators were tasked with shifting the oil after arriving on the mainland and managed to escape even though they had been given warning shots.

"A person escaped by throwing himself into the sea. When the search was carried out, it was found that the perpetrator was found in a lifeless condition. The identity of the perpetrator who died is still being investigated", he said.

After arresting the perpetrators, said the Police Chief, the police invited a security officer to check the fuel on the tanker MT Garuda Asia. After being checked, it turned out that 29 jerry cans or one ton of Pertamax oil had been stolen by the plotter.

"The police also secured evidence in the form of a motorboat and 29 jerry cans of stolen oil with each type containing 35 liters. The five perpetrators were charged under Article 372 Jo Article 378 of the Criminal Code with the threat of four years in prison", Hartanto said.
