Government Discusses Extension Options For Micro PPKM Towards End Of March 8

JAKARTA - The government is currently discussing the imposition of restrictions on micro community activities (PPKM) which will end on Monday, March 8.

"Currently, the extension of the Micro PPKM is still under discussion," said Wiku Adisasmito, spokesperson for the Task Force (Task Force) on handling COVID-19 in a press conference broadcast on the YouTube account of the Presidential Secretariat, Thursday, March 3.

After the discussion is carried out, the government will submit a decision made from the discussion.

"We will immediately inform the public if there is a decision regarding the follow-up," he said.

Previously reported, the COVID-19 Handling Task Force stated that the implementation of Micro PPKM at the RT / RW level since last January was considered effective in preventing the transmission of COVID-19 in the community.

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) also conveyed a similar sentiment last February. He said, PPKM Mikro had hit COVID-19 cases.

"Indeed, at the beginning I was angry. This PPKM was ineffective because only two provinces had come down. The others did not go down at all. Why did I say that at the beginning of the week the PPKM was ineffective, yes because none of the curves have dropped," Jokowi said in the Presidential Secretariat Youtube.

Why is Jokowi so optimistic that the micro PPKM will be able to hit the case? He learned from handling COVID-19 in India. At the beginning of the pandemic, India implemented a one-country lockdown. Unfortunately, this failed due to weaker economic conditions.

Until finally, India changed its strategy for handling the pandemic by implementing lockdowns at the micro level. "Even though in the beginning India had a total lockdown, so India changed its strategy, but the strategy is the same, micro-scale PPKM. So, that's what we use," said Jokowi.

From there, Jokowi considered the previous limitation strategies, namely PPKM and PSBB, to be wrong.

"Wong who is red is one RT, one city has been locked down, the PSBB is one city, the economy will be affected. If one sub-district is affected, yes, only one urban village has been isolated. That's what India has done," he concluded.
