Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Hadi Tjahjanto asked Air Force Chief of Staff (KSAU) Marshal TNI Mohamad Tonny Harjono to guard the Malacca Strait and Natuna.

"The Indonesian Air Force helps secure the Malacca Strait. This is very important because the issue of the Malacca Strait continues and the security of the North Natuna Sea," said Hadi after attending the KSAU handover ceremony at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Base, East Jakarta, reported by ANTARA, Friday, April 5.

To note, several incidents did occur in the Malacca Strait area, one of which was the entry route for Rohingya refugees to Indonesia.

The tightening of the protection of the Malacca Strait and Natuna Sea areas, continued Hadi, must also be accompanied by an increase in the main weapon system (alutsista) belonging to the Indonesian Air Force.

With the development of technology in radar and detection, he believes that supervision in the Malacca Strait and North Natuna Sea areas can run smoothly.

Not only guarding the two areas, the new KSAU was also asked not to relax the state border guards by air.

"The main border guarding is the land border between Indonesia and Malaysia, Indonesia and Timor Leste, and Indonesia with Papua New Guinea," said Hadi.

Hadi hopes that Tonny and all ranks of the Indonesian Air Force can carry out their duties in strengthening supervision of the Indonesian border line by air.
