Responding To The Attack, Eddy Hiariej Alludes To BW Being A Suspect And Asks For Dozens Of Pity By The Attorney General

JAKARTA - The former Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights who is now an expert in the Prabowo-Gibran team in the Constitutional Court (MK) trial, Eddy Hiariej, retaliated against the Anies-Muhaimin legal team's attack on him. At the beginning of the trial, Anies-Muhaimin's legal team member, Bambang Widjojanto (BW) alluded to Eddy being a suspect in the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). When he was about to give an explanation regarding the case, Eddy clarified BW's statement regarding the status of a suspect. Eddy confirmed that this status died after he won a pretrial at the South Jakarta District Court on January 30, 2024. "The news conveyed by Brother Bambang was not conveyed in its entirety. At that time Ali Fikri (KPK) said he would issue a public sprindik by looking at the development of the case," said Eddy at the Constitutional Court trial, Thursday, April 4. "Secondly, I have challenged my status as a suspect at the South Jakarta District Court and the decision on the 30th cancels my status as a suspect," he continued. After clarifying the legal status that had ensnared him, Eddy alluded to the legal case that Bambang had faced several years ago. He considered Bambang no better than him. Bambang was named a suspect and arrested by the Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police on suspicion of involvement in giving false information. This happened when Bambang became a lawyer at the Court's 2010 trial. "So I am different from brother BW, when he was named a suspect, he did not challenge but hoped for the mercy of the attorney general to give a deponir (dismissal of criminal prosecution)," said Eddy. Previously, Bambang Widjojanto decided to leave the courtroom when Edward Omar Sharif Hiariej or Eddy Hiariej stepped forward to provide an explanation at the Constitutional Court hearing. Eddy Hiariej was brought to the courtroom today in his capacity as an expert proposed by the Prabowo-Gibran team as the related party. Bambang also asked the panel of judges for permission to leave the courtroom and explain the reason. "The assembly, because I objected earlier, I gave permission to resign when my colleague, Professor Hiariej, would provide an explanation," said Bambang.

The former deputy chairman of the KPK said that he would return to the courtroom after Eddy no longer gave his legal views regarding the case. "Later I will enter again in other expert witnesses. (This) is a consistency of my attitude. Thank you," said Bambang.
