Prabowo Meets PM Kishida To Discuss Industrial And Defense Collaboration

JAKARTA - Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto when meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida at the Japanese Prime Minister's Office, Tokyo, Japan, discussed opportunities for Indonesia-Japan collaboration in various sectors including industry and defense.

Prabowo spoke with PM Kishida to convey that Indonesia and Japan need to strengthen cooperation in the future considering that the two countries have succeeded in maintaining good relations and continuing partnerships in various fields.

"The two countries have built good cooperative relations so far, and have asked the Japanese government to work together to achieve stronger relationships in the future and increase collaboration in the defense sector," Defense Minister Prabowo told PM Kishida as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, April 3.

Japan became the second destination on Prabowo's overseas visit since he was appointed by the KPU as the elected presidential candidate on March 20, 2024. Prabowo and his entourage arrived at Haneda International Airport, Tokyo, Japan, on Wednesday morning and immediately met PM Kishida.

In Tokyo, Prabowo is also scheduled to meet with Japanese Defense Minister Kihara Minuru and Japanese-Indonesian Association Chairman (JAPINDA) Yasuo Fukuda.

During a meeting with Prabowo in Tokyo, Wednesday, PM Kishida said he was happy with the arrival of the elected RI presidential candidate to his country.

"Japan and Indonesia have been close friends for a long time. I want (two countries, ed.) to further increase cooperation as partners who have the same principles and values," Kishida told Prabowo.

PM Kishida, in his meeting with Prabowo, also conveyed Japan's intention to deepen cooperation with Indonesia, especially in order to ensure that Indo-Pacific remains a free and open area.
