Sirekap Data Had Changes, KPU Expert: Serang Cyber DDoS

JAKARTA - Witness to the General Elections Commission (KPU), Yudistira Dwi Wardhana Asnar, said that the cause of the recapitulation of votes had stalled and rose significantly on the Sirekap website on February 14, 2024.

According to him, this was due to a cyber Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attack since morning. As a result, Sirekap can only be recovered in the afternoon.

"We have been hit by DDoS since morning. And only then can we survive until 18.30. And we have to have a lot of struggle from our friends. Until finally there are accusations that we are using this," said Yudistira at the General Election Results Presence (PHPU) trial at the Constitutional Court (MK), Wednesday, April 3.

Not only Sirekap, the KPU also experienced DDoS attacks when entering the election stage. In fact, the intensity is quite frequent, namely three times a day.

From the identification, the DDoS attack did not come from countries that were suspected of doing it. Rather, from European countries.

"DDos, who entered one day at the start of the election, was around 2-3. At the end of the election, we got DDoS for a week, like taking medicine, three times a day. And it's not from countries that we usually expect, even European countries, it mostly means European countries, yes, but there is an origin from European traffic that does that," he said.

However, the attack was contained. Until finally, Sirekap can be restored.

"But thank God God it still protects us all," said Yudistira.
