KPU Considers Anies-Muhaimin's Lawsuit Not Related To Election Result Dispute, Asks The Constitutional Court To Reject

JAKARTA - The continued trial of the 2024 presidential election dispute continues with the submission of the General Election Commission (KPU) answer as the defendant in the 2024 presidential election dispute lawsuit at the Constitutional Mahakamah (MK).

Responding to Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar's lawsuit, KPU attorney Hifdzil Alim assessed that the request did not lead to disputes over the results of the general election (PHPU).

"The petitioner's petition does not at all dispute over the results of the presidential and vice presidential elections. However, the applicant argued that the alleged betrayal of the constitution and violations of the free principle were honest and fair," said Hifdzil at the Constitutional Court building, Thursday, March 28.

Meanwhile, according to the KPU, the authority of the Constitutional Court in the election dispute is to examine and decide the PHPU.

In his lawsuit, Anies-Muhaimin called the KPU only included the recapitulation of the presidential election votes determined by the respondent without juxtaposing the results of the votes according to the petitioner.

Therefore, the KPU asked the Constitutional Court to reject Anies-Muhaimin's request. The KPU also asked the Constitutional Court to state that the results of the 2024 presidential election vote recapitulation were correct and still valid.

"Based on these things mentioned above, the content of the applicant's petition is not the material for the dispute over the results of the PHPU which can be examined and decided by the Constitutional Court. That thus the applicant's application must be rejected or at least unacceptable," said Hifdzil.

For information, the presidential election dispute lawsuit filed by Anies and Muhaimin has case number 2/PHPU.PRES-XXII/2024. In the lawsuit, they wanted a re-voting by disqualifying Gibran Rakabuming Raka.
