JAKARTA - The Traffic Police Corps has prepared traffic engineering to anticipate the movement of approximately 70 million motorized vehicles using land routes during Eid Al-Fitr 2024 so that there is no slowdown in flow that causes traffic jams.

"What we need to concentrate on using the road is almost 60 million to 70 million more. That's for a combination of around 37 million buses, 35 million private cars, 31 million motorcycles. This is what we need to anticipate," said Director of Law Enforcement of Korlantas Polri Brigadier General Police Raden Slamet Santosodilansir ANTARA, Wednesday, March 27.

Based on the results of a survey by the Ministry of Transportation, as many as 193.6 million people are predicted to travel back and forth this year's Eid. That number increased by around 52 percent compared to Eid al-Fitr 2023 which was recorded at around 123 million people.

From this data, when viewed by the origin of the travelers, the five highest regions came from East Java with nearly 31.3 million people, Jabodetabek 28.43 million people, Central Java 26.11 million people, West Java 22.79 million people, and North Sumatra 10.67 million people.

Meanwhile, the homecoming destinations are most directed to East Java with an estimated 61.6 million people, Central Java 37.6 million people, West Java 32.1 million people, the Special Region of Yogyakarta 11.7 million people, and DKI Jakarta 6.4 million people.

"The most selected modes of transportation are trains around 39.32 percent, and others, private car buses and motorbikes," said Slamet.

To anticipate the traffic jam, the National Police deployed 76,192 personnel from the National Police Headquarters and the ranks of the police who were dispatched to 5,784 service posts, security posts and integrated posts.

The deployment of these personnel in Operation Ketupat 2024 which lasted for 13 days from April 4 to 16.

Traffic engineering prepared based on a Joint Decree (SKB), namely contraflow (change part of the direction of the flow of vehicle traffic on the road which is experiencing congestion) and one way (one direction), especially on the Jakarta-Cikampek, Cipali and Kalikangkung sections.

"Some potential vulnerabilities that we will anticipate on toll roads are of course slowdowns in certain segments. Especially with the potential number of movements from Jakarta, especially to the east and west which are quite high, the potential for slowdown, at toll gates, bottle necks, rest areas, and driver behavior itself," said Slamet.
