JAKARTA - The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) of Medan City, North Sumatra, has asked the local city government not to selectively control night entertainment venues (THM) during the holy month of Ramadan 1445 Hijri.

"The Medan City Government takes firm action against all entertainment venues that are still open in Ramadan without selective logging," said Medan City MUI chairman Hasan Matsum as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, March 27.

According to him, it is not impossible that there is a THM in the capital city of North Sumatra Province to continue operating by not heeding the appeal letter.

MUI previously issued an appeal Number: 01 / DP-K / II / 2024 concerning the Month of Ramadan 1445 Hijri / 2024 AD to Medan City Muslims dated February 28, 2024.

This was followed up by the Medan City Tourism Office through the Medan Mayor Circular Number 400-8-2-3/1871 dated March 6, 2024, effective from March 10 to April 10, 2024.

"If there are violations like this that ignore circulars, both MUI and the city government, it is natural for the guardian to do that," he said.

MUI also hopes that all nightclubs, such as karaoke, massage parlors, steam baths, spas, and bars, must comply with operational advice in the holy month of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr 1445 Hijri.

"For Muslims, don't waste this holy month of Ramadan. Fill in with worship because there is one night better than a thousand months," said Hasan.

Medan Mayor Bobby Nasution carried out a surprise inspection by forcibly closing the Heaven Seven Club nightclub which operates in the holy month of Ramadan.

"The temporary closure of entertainment and recreation businesses will take effect from March 10 to April 10, 2024," said Bobby.

This policy was issued by the Medan City Government to respect and at the same time appreciate Muslims in carrying out the holy month of Ramadan and celebrating Eid al-Fitr.

However, in fact, the Heaven Seven Club does not respect the month of Ramadan while still operating. Even some time ago this entertainment venue was visited by the local village, but the management did not heed the appeal to temporarily close.

"I made sure directly by conducting inspections. I even disguised myself as a visitor on Saturday (23/3) at around 22.40 WIB," said Bobby.
