Prabowo-Gibran Legal Team: No Rules Can Be Repeated

JAKARTA - The head of the Prabowo-Gibran Defenders Team, Yusril Ihza Mahendra, emphasized that there is no regulation governing that the presidential election can be repeated.

The request for the presidential election to be repeated is a request for Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD and Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar to the Constitutional Court (MK).

"In the history of our election, as well as our laws and regulations have never existed and there are no rules that the presidential and vice presidential elections can be re-voted thoroughly," said Yusril after the inaugural hearing on the 2024 presidential election dispute at the Constitutional Court building, Wednesday, March 27.

Yusril also disagreed with the Ganjar-Mahfud camp, which saw that the presidential election could be repeated because of the Constitutional Court's decision regarding the re-voting of regional head elections (pilkada).

In the petitum of his lawsuit, Ganjar-Mahfud said that the Constitutional Court had repeatedly implemented disqualification as a consequence when the nomination requirements could not be met.

Ganjar-Mahfud gave an example, the Constitutional Court has targeted the pair of candidates for Regent and Deputy Regent of Boven Digoel in 2020, Yusak Yaluwo and Yakob Weremba.

The Constitutional Court has also disqualified the candidate pair for regent and deputy regent of Sabu Raijua in 2020, Orient Patriot Riwu Kore and Thobias Uly.

According to Yusril, holding the presidential and regional elections cannot be equated.

"The examples mentioned in the petition that the Constitutional Court had disqualified this, disqualified all of them were disqualification of the regional elections," said Yusril. "How many times have the Constitutional Court examined and sent the PHPU case. Even though the Constitutional Court canceled it all and held the presidential election for the second time," he continued.

Therefore, Yusril said that the Prabowo-Gibran Defenders Team as the party related to the 2024 presidential election dispute lawsuit would refute allegations of election violations in the subject of the lawsuit against Ganjar-Mahfud and Anies-Muhaimin on Thursday, March 28.

"So we will deny that later we will argue in the statement we conveyed tomorrow," he concluded.
