Residents' Wells In Aceh Jaya Spray Gas Up To Fire Suppression

BANDA ACEH - Residents of Keutapang Village, Krueng Sabee District, Aceh Jaya Regency were shocked by a burst of gas while digging a bore well near their house to emit a fire.

"Because we were suspicious, we tried to start the fire using a lighter so that the fire caught fire," said the drill well digger, Ermansyah, quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, March 26.

Ermansyah explained that initially they dug wells on Saturday (24/3). However, until Tuesday (26/3) the process of digging the well had not yet released water, even though it was already using an engine. The water cannot go up while digging on the rice fields.

Finally he and his partner saw a gas burst out of the well, and it started when it was engulfed in flames.

"I have never met before when digging wells. Because the depth is 18 meters," said Ermansyah.

In this regard, the Aceh Jaya Government Representative, Dedek Suriadi said, based on the results of field monitoring, the gas was allegedly produced from the decay of peatlands underground, causing methane gas.

"This process usually occurs around that alone and can run out quickly, it is the same as gas arising from septic tanks and also at the Final Disposal Site (TPA)," said the former Aceh Jaya LHK Service official.

He emphasized that the alleged gas would also not be dangerous because it usually arises and disappears by itself.

"There may not be a special appeal, especially if it's only a few, as we did earlier, the test didn't come out either," said Dedek Suriadi.
