The National Police Chief Says The Toll Road Will Be Freed During Eid Al-Fitr 2024 Homecoming, But There Are Conditions

JAKARTA - National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo stated that it is possible to apply toll fee exemptions as a measure to anticipate traffic jams during the 2024 Eid Al-Fitr homecoming flow. However, the scheme will only be implemented if there is a long term at the toll gate.

"We will release some time for toll roads if the capacity exceeds what is being criticized," Sigit told reporters, Monday, March 25.

The decision, said Sigit, was based on the results of coordination with Jasa Marga. However, there was no detailed reason that the scheme was only implemented when there had been long queues or traffic jams.

"At certain times when the flow that enters the toll road is extraordinary, there are areas based on meetings with the Jasamarga Office," he said.

Meanwhile, the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (PMK), Muhadjir Effendy said that for now the toll fee exemption is only applied on functional toll roads.

Meanwhile, the commercial toll road is said to be only likely to be given a discount. However, until now it is still being discussed further with the toll road management.

"Regarding free toll roads for functional toll roads, commercial ones are likely to have discounts like last year, only we have not coordinated with the operators. Later we will coordinate with the toll road management agency, Jasa Marga and operators," said Muhadjir.

Previously, Korlantas Polri and the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub) predicted that 193.6 million people would return to their hometowns at the moment of Eid al-Fitr 2024, with the most destinations for Central Java.

"The first destination for travelers is Central Java, which is almost 61.6 million people," said Director of Law Enforcement or Dirgakkum Korlantas Polri Brigadier General Raden Slamet.

Then, East Java became the second area to be the destination for travelers. It is predicted that 37 million people will go there.
