JAKARTA - Russia launched a missile attack on Ukraine's capital Kyiv on Thursday morning, wounding at least 10 people, destroying residential buildings and industrial facilities, city officials said, while the military claimed to have succeeded in bringing down all of these missiles.

The first major attack in recent weeks targeted the city with ballistic and cruise missiles, Serhiy Popko, the city's chief military administration.

"After a 44-day break, the enemy again launched a missile attack on Kyiv," he said.

"All emergency services work on site. Control of the impact of missile attacks is underway," he continued.

Popko said the Russian military used strategic bombers and also launched several missiles from its territory. Meanwhile, after carrying out complicated maneuvers in neighboring areas, the missile targeted the city from various directions.

Residents of a multilevel building in the central district of Shevchenkivskyi were evacuated after one of the apartments caught fire. The attack also destroyed windows in several nearby houses and burned private cars, Popko said.

Meanwhile, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said at least 10 people were injured across the city. An 11-year-old girl was among two people taken to hospital, city officials said.

The air warning lasted almost three hours. Mayor Klitschko said missile debris hit several residential buildings, industrial and kindergarten locations throughout the city.

The air force commander said Ukraine's air defenses managed to shoot down all 31 Russian missiles targeting the capital.
