Floods Widespread Genanggi 31 Villages In Kudus Regency, 5,014 Residents Forced To Evacuate

Residents of Kudus Regency, Central Java are in refugee camps due to flooding.

The KUDUS-Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Kudus Regency, Central Java, recorded that floods that spread to 31 villages in their area caused the number of displaced residents to increase to 5,014 people.

"Currently, flooding in Kudus Regency is increasingly widespread in 31 villages from the previous 29 villages. Not to mention with refugees from Demak Regency," said Head of Emergency at the Kudus Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Munaji as quoted by ANTARA, Wednesday, March 20. For the number of residents in Kudus who were affected, he said, until Tuesday (19/3) at 22.00 WIB, the total was around 39,272 people, while there were 3,041 people displaced or 828 families. The refugees, he said, were scattered in 29 refugee locations. Among them, there were those occupying the building hall of the Kudus DPRD, village halls, places of worship, educational places, and public kitchens provided in 15 locations, starting from Golantepus Village Hall, Jati Wetan Village Hall, Gulang, Blimbing Kidul, DPRD building, mosque, TPQ, and church. For the number of refugees from Demak Regency as many as 1,973 people or 500 families.

Regarding logistical availability, for now it is still sufficient. However, later there will also be parties who will help meet logistics needs. The Kudus Regency Government can also use unexpected funds, following the determination of the emergency response status for strong winds, floods, and landslides.
