The Government And DPR Agree On The Governor Of Jakarta To Serve For 5 Years In The DKJ Bill

JAKARTA - The government and the DPR have agreed that the Governor and Deputy Governor of the Special Region of Jakarta (DKJ) will remain in office for 5 years and can be re-elected in one term.

The decision was taken at the Working Committee meeting on the Draft Law on the Special Region of Jakarta (RUU DKJ) at the DPR building, Jakarta, Monday, March 18.

Secretary General of the Ministry of Home Affairs Suhajar Diantoro said, in DIM Article 75 paragraph 3 of the governor and deputy governor's term of office for 5 years from the inauguration and thereafter can be reappointed.

"The term of office of the governor and deputy governor for 5 years starts from the inauguration period and thereafter can be re-elected with the same position only for one term," Suhajar said in a meeting.

Chairman of the Legislation Body (Baleg) DPRSupratman Andi Agtas then asked the meeting participants whether or not to approve this matter.

"Agreed, okay?", asked Supratman, the approval of the meeting participants was answered.

Previously, the DPR and the government agreed that the governor of Jakarta would be elected through the Pilkada political contestation.

The government requested that the clause contained in the DKJ Bill proposed by the DPR RI Article 10 paragraph (2) regarding the appointment of the Governor and Deputy Governor of the Special Region of Jakarta be elected by the President to be removed.

Suhajar also mentioned that Article 76 of the provisions regarding the appointment of dismissal of governors and deputy governors are regulated by government regulations (PP) in accordance with the Pilkada Law.

"The government proposes further provisions on the procedures for selecting governors and deputy governors in accordance with statutory regulations," he said.

Supratman again asked the members for the approval. "Agree yes," he said.
